Standard #7: Planning for Instruction

The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

The artifact that connects to standard 7 is the EDU 267 discussion questions 2. This artifact answered questions on how to integrate science standards and instruction into the literacy block of a kindergarten through third grade classroom. These answers allow us to get a better understanding of how science is integrated into the classroom in young grade levels. This artifact connects to the standard because it shows that teachers plan instructions that will support every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context. This supports every student by breaking up the students into different groups. These groups allow students to get the support they need by breaking them up into groups based on their learning level. This artifact allows students to draw upon knowledge of content area in order to meet their learning goals. For example, students are able to draw upon knowledge within different science topics while still meeting their literacy learning goals. All of these learning activities such as read to self, guided reading, word work, and computer time all overlap across different disciplinary skills but are all connected by a single shared subject. Teachers breaking up their literacy block into different sections is a pedagogy that can be used within many subjects in order to meet the goals of all students.

This artifact expands my pedagogy knowledge and will improve my future practice as an educator. This assignment allowed me to see how important it is to integrate science into a literacy block. This will improve my teaching in the future because it allows me to see how teachers can plan instructions that will support every student in meeting their rigorous learning goals. Within the classroom, I will use stations and group work in my literacy block. These groups are important because it allows students of all learning levels to learn at their own pace and get the instruction that they need. I will also use knowledge of different content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, pedagogy, knowledge of learners, and community context to help students reach their learning goals. It is important that students have content from all different subjects integrated into their curriculum. This helps students become more knowledgeable and interested in other topics.

The artifact that connects to standard 7 is my Math Workshop that I created for Teaching Mathematics, K-8. This artifact demonstrated how to create and teach a math lesson using whole group and small group instruction in order to meet the needs of all students. This workshop allows us to have a better understanding of how to create a math lesson that allows every student to meet their learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy . This artifact connects to the standard because it shows that the teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas. Within the math workshop, it provides information on small group and whole group instruction that connects to the content area of second grade math standards. The teacher provides instruction to help students reach their goals when learning the standards that go along with number and operations in base ten. This artifact also shows that the teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting their goals. It shows that the math block can use small groups that are based on the students learning needs in order to make sure that the student is provided with the instruction they need. In the math workshop, it also discusses ways to meet the needs of our multilingual learners, students with disabilities and how to incorporate the multitiered system of support. The teacher uses different pedagogy skills in order to teach content, curriculum, and cross-disciplinary skills to students. The math workshop ensures that teachers are planning for instruction.

This artifact expands my pedagogy knowledge and will improve my future practice as an educator. This assignment allowed me to see the importance of planning out instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary, skills and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context. This artifact allowed me to plan out a math lesson for my students that can be used in my future pedagogy. Within the classroom, I will make sure to plan my instruction in advance and use the most effective method of teaching in order to meet the needs of all my students. I will make sure to implement both small groups based on academic level and whole group teaching when teaching my students math and other subjects. The Math Workshop has shown me the importance of planning out a lesson in advance in order to help my students reach their learning goals.

The artifact that connects to standard seven is the google site mentor text for writing assignment. This artifact demonstrates how to use and incorporate mentor texts in the classroom when teaching students about the different writing traits. This artifact allows us to have a better understanding on how to teach students about the different writing traits. Using mentor texts to create lessons about the different writing traits will help support students in meeting their rigorous learning goals. The google site draws upon knowledge of specific content areas and curriculum. This supports students’ goals by providing them with mentor texts and lessons in order to draw upon specific knowledge and reach their writing goals. Mentor texts being used during a writing block also overlap across different disciplinary skills because the mentor texts integrate reading into the writing block. Planning lessons based around mentor texts supports knowledge that is being learned and the community context. Mentor texts and lessons based around these texts being integrated into the writing block, support students in their writing workshop. Students are able to learn new knowledge about writing and form a sense of community during their writing workshops.

This artifact expands my pedagogy knowledge and will improve my future practice as an educator. This assignment allowed me to understand the importance of planning out instruction that will help support my students’ needs and learning goals. This artifact has allowed me to find mentor texts and activities that can be used within my future classroom to teach my students about the different writing traits. Within my classroom, I will ensure to plan instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context. It is important that within the writing block, cross-disciplinary skills, such as reading, are used in order to provide instruction that will meet the needs of all students. This mentor text assignment has provided me with information and instruction that will help expand my pedagogy knowledge in my future classroom.

The artifact that connects to standard seven: planning for instruction is my Inclusive Classroom Culture plan. This artifact allowed me to create a first day of school plan and a behavioral plan that has tools and strategies that can be implemented into the classroom. This artifact connects to standard 7 because it demonstrates that the teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context. The inclusive classroom culture plan allows teachers to plan a first day of school and behavioral plan in advance. Within the plan knowledge about content areas, curriculum, disciplinary skills, and pedagogy were drawn upon. Resources such as CASEL 5, yardsticks, teacher language, PBIS, SEL, and more were used to create strategies and tools to help manage a classroom and support both students and teachers. This plan supports the needs of all students and allows teachers to plan ahead and make adjustments to their classroom teaching and management.

This artifact expands my pedagogy knowledge and will improve my future practice as an educator . This assignment allowed to to better understand the purpose of planning out instruction that will help support my students’ in the classroom and the teacher’s classroom management.
